Unfortunately this group’s website and activities are suspended due to lack of funds and a space on campus for hosting events. Should these circumstances change this site will become active again. Thank you and we hope to return again.

Past Activities:

  • Monthly potluck luncheons where everyone could share cuisines, cultures and friendship.
  • Family events like picnics and holiday parties.
  • Welcome students into our homes for hospitality and meals.
  • Additional opportunities for English language conversation skills.
  • Other activities included workshops, cultural talks and music events.

A Little History:
The group was started in 1981 as “Friends of Foreign Students”.  One of the original founders, Alexandra Eggena would coordinate activities both on campus and in even in her own home.  According to Juan Oliver and Psychology Major from Spain, Alexandra created an atmosphere of unity for foreign students and as a result of her efforts through the World Friends group, we have found that many of our members have kept in touch and have made life-long friends here.

After Alexandra’s passing in 2000 World Friends was coordinated by Rosario Jeremias and met for Potluck at the Cervantes Community Center. The group’s activities had eventually faded into smaller in-home gatherings. After attending the 2015 International Festival some of the long standing members decided to revive the group and bring it back to campus. World Friends opened the doors for their back-to-campus event with a potluck on May 2 at the Nason House on the NMSU campus and continues to meet there on the first Saturday of each month at 1pm.
